Climate in the News:
Last week the Climate Prediction Center released their spring climate outlook, part of which was the U.S. Seasonal Drought Outlook. According to this outlook, drought is expected to develop in the Texas Panhandle, North-Central Texas, and in Oklahoma, and persist where it is already present.

Weather Synopsis:
Mid-week a strong cold front pushed through the Region. In the wake of the cold front, temperatures cooled down significantly and strong winds gusted at the surface.

Temperature:
Overall, March is when the Region is starting to warm up. However, frequent cold fronts are still common, bringing rain chances and below-normal temperatures for a few days.

Temperatures were seasonable for much of last week across the Southern Region. Weekly average temperatures were below normal for much of the Region, favoring near normal in North Texas and Oklahoma. Overall weekly average temperatures hovered around 55 to 62 degrees Fahrenheit for much of the Region, several degrees cooler than last week.
Precipitation:
With the majority of the Region being in a humid subtropical climate, rainfall is common at any point of the year. Frequently, during the spring months, storm systems are also common throughout the south. During March severe storm probabilities are at their highest in the Lower Mississippi Valley.

Not much precipitation occurred in the Southern Region last week. A few spotty showers over the weekend in the eastern portion of the Region did not yield any significant precipitation totals, with the highest totals being under half an inch.
