Early last Hurricane Beryl tracked northeast from the Houston area to the Midwest. Beryl brought heavy rainfall to Southeast Texas leading to damaging flooding as Beryl tracked northeast as a tropical storm and depression though it brought plentiful rainfall to areas needing it. As a result, northern Arkansas and northwest Oklahoma saw widespread one-class improvements. Unfortunately, though, Tennessee was not able to see much rain last week, resulting in the introduction of severe drought (D2) across the state. More dry conditions also continued in central Mississippi and Far West Texas.
Looking into the future, the next two weeks the Climate Prediction Center expects below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation across the Southern Region. The combination of these conditions should help keep drought development at bay for Texas and Oklahoma.
