Last week the Southern Region experienced multiple lines of storms, which brought widespread heavy precipitation. This led to one-class improvements in the Texas Panhandle, western Oklahoma, and northeast Arkansas. One-class improvements were also observed in Hill County of Texas. These improvements had a large impact as Travis County, Texas was drought free for the first time in two years! Unfortunately, though, record breaking heat continued in south Texas leading to some localized one-class degradations.
Looking into the future, according to the U.S. Monthly Drought Outlook for this June, drought is expected to develop in south Texas and remain in west/southwest Texas.
