Southern Region's Drought Monitor valid 12/26/2024

Drought Monitor 1 Week Class Change Map, Valid Dec 24th, 2024

A seasonable cold front draped across Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee brought the Southern Region’s largest source of precipitation last week. After the front, dry conditions dominated over the rest of the week. Combined with seasonable and cooler-than-normal temperatures, the northern portion of the Region experienced one-class improvements. However, warmer-than-normal temperatures in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas caused widespread one-class degradations. In Mississippi alone, (D0) Abnormally Dry conditions expanded by 18% of land area, with 67% of the state’s area impacted by drought.
