Hurricane Helene brought devastating flooding to the Appalachian mountains in Eastern Tennessee. Other areas of Tennessee and Northwest Arkansas also received rainfall totals from 2 to 6 inches from the storm. As a result of Hurricane Helene drought improvements occurred in Eastern Arkansas, Northern Mississippi, and across Tennessee. Two-class improvements occurred across much of Tennessee, with areas of Eastern Tennessee seeing three-class improvements. This eliminated drought conditions in eastern Tennessee and improved much of the state to just abnormally dry conditions. Much of the remainder of the Region saw less than normal precipitation totals leading to degradations in South Texas, Far West Texas, Southern Mississippi, and across Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
