A series of fronts brought widespread rainfall last week, which allowed the Southern Region to experience wet conditions and near-normal temperatures. Rainfall accumulated most in the east, especially in Tennessee where most of the north and east received heavy rain with accumulations up to 12.5 inches. Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi also received up to 8 inches of rain. The days-long rainfall event brought widespread drought improvements to Tennessee and Mississippi, and completely ameliorated drought in many counties across the east. South Texas and coastal counties in Louisiana experienced drier and warmer conditions than normal and caused one-class drought degradations.
Looking to the future, precipitation chances return to the eastern portion of the Southern Region at the end of this week. However, forecasted rainfall amounts are minimal, except for portions of north and west Tennessee.
