The last week of 2025 brought plenty of rainfall to the Southern Region. Rainfall reports totaled 2-10 inches across east Texas to Mississippi. And combined with some pockets of cooler-than-normal temperatures, widespread drought improvements occurred. Over the past week, almost 28% of the Southern Region’s land area experienced one-class improvements, including 8% of the Region's area of ameliorated drought. However, warmer than normal temperatures and lacking rainfall brought pockets of drought degradations in the western half of Texas. These degradations reflect spreading (D0) Abnormally Dry and (D1) Moderate Drought conditions in the Texas Great Plains.
